About the Authors

Barry Nicholls is a former school teacher turned journalist. He has worked as a sports reporter for News Limited and has written extensively about sport for more than a decade. He is a WA based presenter for ABC Radio who lives with his partner Ann and their four children in Busselton.


Michael Sexton has been a journalist for more than 25 years, work that has taken him from Bendigo to London. He is a seven time winner of the SANFL media award for excellence and is currently the 7.30 Report correspondent from South Australia.


Bernard Whimpress has co-written or edited more than 20 books with cricket being a specialty. He holds a doctorate in history from Flinders University and has taught courses in sports, American and world history at Flinders University; and Aboriginal history and sports journalism at the University of South Australia. Bernard is a founder member of the Australian Society for Sports History and is a member of the Professional Historians Association, the Australian Cricket Society, the Association of Cricket Statisticians and Historians, and the Art Deco and Modernism Society.


Michael Coligan played 83 games and kicked 269 goals for Norwood between 1969 and 1975. He was twice the club's leading goal kicker and in 1972 led the SANFL. He has thirty years experience in sports and recreation facility management and chairs the Norwood Football club's history group and Hall of Fame committee.
